Received this message from a friend at 7.30pm on October 17th, 2006:
Kindly note that there is a major problem in the airport road near HAL as a Volvo bus has run over more than 20 employees of HAL. HAL employees are upset and are in a violent mood.
Employees are requested to not to travel in that area at least for next 2-3 Hrs.
If any of our employees are coming to Bangalore tonight or tomorrow, pls ask them avoid the travel unless it is emergency.
Incase if any one of them are already started pls let us know, we will try and get them out of the air port road.
There is a major violence in airport road near HAL
NDTV website says Two people died and 19 were injured when a BMTC Volvo bus ploughed through a group of HAL employees.
News update at 10pm:
Just heard on CNN IBN news channel that the accident took place at around 3.30pm today. It seems the BMTC Volvo bus driver lost control and jammed it at a bus shelter where people were waiting for the bus. Unofficial sources say that 4 people are dead while Police sources say that 2 are dead. The injured have been admitted to Manipal Hospital, Bowring Hospital and HAL Hospital. Situation on Air Port Road returning to normal. BMTC report expected tomorrow evening after which the Police will arrest the driver, the news channel said.
