‘Sudha’ magazine is a household name in most Kannada homes. Recently, they brought out three special issues. The cover story in each of them, Status of Kannada in schools, Rashtrakavi GS Shivarudrappa and Nityotsava kavi KS Nisar Ahmad, have been written very well. Worth a read.

For all the Horanadu Kannadigas, the good news is that you can read Sudha online.

    RK,

First off, thanks for the link.

It was so much fun ‘waiting’ every week to get hold of the latest copy of ‘Sudha’. My mother and I would complete the padabaMdha in no time, every week. The entire issue would be done within a few hours. I have to credit Gulvadi for making ‘taranga’ an equally good magazine, though. Two gems….

  6. rk Says:

    praneshachar,
    thanks for that trivia.

    anoop,
    happy for you.

Sudha brings fond memories. Twenty years ago, as students we waited for Thursdays and enjoyed the articles written by Nagesh Hegde, R. Poornima, Anand and others! One day three of us college friends went to MG Road from Channapatna to meet these favourite writers.
Our parents loved Anupama Niranjana’s and Usha navaratnaram’s novels. Each Sudha was a feast to the whole family! I miss Sudha here in Baroda. I will try for online reading.

Can somebody recollect and quote the name of the kannada dharawahi in Sudha during 1970s. Story was something like ‘Our hero is a football player and could not marry his lady love. He was saved by his grand father while he was drowning. He later meets his childhood flame after he has grown up and became a famous guy. ‘ Story is bit brahminical. This much only I could remember. can some body recollect the name of the novel or the dharawahi please….

  30. Anuroop Says:

Hey Ramesh, the novel is Anandobrahma by Yendamoori Veerendranath. And man, that recollection of the story is not bad- although kind of reads like the script for a bollywood movie !

I have been reading ‘Sudha’since 1972. I can’t forget those two pages in ‘Sudha’ in which comical characters like Daabu, Shooja, Inspector Azad and Majnu were being published. Though ‘Sudha’ has changed a lot over a period of nearly 40 years, even today I eagerly wait for her on each Thursday. My humble request is whether is it not possible for you to publish those four characters mentioned above once again in ‘Sudha’to revive our old memories?

  48. Pradeep Says:

    Dear Yedyrappa/Government of Karnataka.

Sub: About acquiring of the farmer land for the industries,

This is very good news for the all Karnataka peoples because of Karnataka is improving, new industries are coming. Totally Karnataka is identifying in the world globe. But question is rising “Karnataka people how much opportunity taken from this”

Bangalore is example for this, surrounding farmer’s land totally purchased and given for improving the industries. But what is happened totally sold this to other state peoples. No jobs, no home Karnataka people. If you have a gut do the strict agreement with investors like to provide jobs to Karnataka people. This is not possible to you; you need tax from them only.

Karnataka peoples servant for to other state people, Karnataka peoples living for rent in other state people home. This means what is the use of acquiring of the farmer land for the industries,

Total Karnataka how many investors are came and invested money, but how many jobs given to us check it.

Now we have lost Bangalore if it is going like this means in the future once totally we will loose the total Karnataka surely.

Bangalore effecting to all side of Karnataka, in the Karnataka where jobs there are is no jobs to Karnataka people that is only for other state peoples. Example Karwar Kaiga NPCIL, Mysore TVS-BEML-Wipro, Dharwad-Belur TATA, Mangalore Infosys, Belgaum cement industries here 90% other state peoples are working. These are small known examples. Karnataka is the gold carpet for others.

We are fighting every day with other state people for our right. In our home we have to fight for our rights?

Mostly you people don’t know, if you live like common man then only you can understand. What is a problem, what is struggle?

In Bangalore more than 75% other state peoples are here. Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad etc… here also some percentages of other state peoples are there. But they have not loose their culture or language, land, nothing.

Why it not possible in the Karnataka? Why it is not possible in Bangalore?

Farmer’s land acquisition is easy they will give 100%. But think about what is next?

Should not make peoples like servant of other’s in the future we are Indian they are British

    Pradeep Follower of Pattil Puttappa.

  49. Pradeep Says:

Keep the meaning “Government of Karnataka”.

Karnataka peoples are suffering lot in the Bangalore. Because of increasing
the other states people population .we are questioning all Karnataka people
each other Bangalore is capital of Karnataka?

Bangalore is for Karnataka? Bangalore is developing for Karnataka people?
Etc…. This type all questions are raising to all.

Our governments need only vote, sit and tax? Our government is itself deleting the Kannada language in the Bangalore and Karnataka. In offices, advertisements, production labels, Buses, All type Industries, Schools, Colleges, etc…. we are searching where Kannada is.

We can see in Bangalore, especially Central government all type industries,
Railway, Software, IT, BPO, Film land, Real-estate, TV Channels, Multiplex
etc… 95% other state peoples are here. Here where is Karnataka peoples?
Where is Kannada? How we can feel Bangalore is capital city of Karnataka? Last censes we have seen population of Bangalore. This is real truth of increasing Bangalore populations.

Censes team said funny reason that’s north Karnataka peoples have came to Bangalore. So Bangalore population is increased. North Karnataka peoples are working as coolies in all sides of the Bangalore. What about Central government all type industries, Railway, Software, IT, BPO, Film land, Real-estate, TV Channels, Multiplexes’……..These fields fixed only outside state peoples? How funny?

Just think like common man then you can understand what is going on in the Bangalore. May you count Karnataka people in above said industries you will get maximum 10%.

They are 95% in the Bangalore (Out side state peoples). Single appointment we cannot get in the other states. Other state people are telling in the Bangalore “we are Indians”. But in their states they are respect their culture and languages, again forced to learn state languages only. In the Bangalore privative schools there is no Kannada language, not ready to teach our state language. This is Bangalore; this is our Karnataka capital city.

These effects extend to Karnataka other cities also like Mysore, Mangalore
    Hubli, Danangare, Karwar etc…..

Now day’s you can check this effect, Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli, Danangare, Karwar etc…..more site registration is going by out side state people. Totally jobs are going to them only.

Small example for the one In the Karwar Kaiga NPCIL is there. In the NPCIL more than 80% other state people are working. Even Kaiga surrounding peoples are also not got the jobs. Next 70% of power is going to the other state. Karwar and Kaiga surrounding places are not having proper power supply.
This is only small example. WHAT IS DOING OUR GOVERNMENT?
In the Bangalore we are living like outside people.

So, please at least provide 99% jobs for Karnataka people in the in all industries,

Otherwise, we are already lost total Bangalore. In the future once 100% we
    will lose Karnataka.

This is just humble request from our Karnataka.

Otherwise in the future once blood will flow in the Bangalore and Karnataka. That time we can’t able to fight with them.

    Your’s

  51. k s pradeep Says:

the big draw back in this issue is that the main reason for the uproar by every one is about the red-carpet welcome given to the people from the other states and our own clan of our Districts. Fine but what about the locals of bangalore
whether he is a kannadiga ,tamilian teluguvallu, muslim or any other caste we the people born and brought up here are facing one peculiar problem which is not observed or highlighted by any politic honcho or other media barron.Let any one conduct a survey then they will come across a mind boggling fact that we are becoming the stagnant sect of this era. only the outsiders are fourishing and we are forced to work under them that too with the people who doesnt even bother about our culture and language. something should be done on this regard at high level or else the locals will be facing the same heat faced by the mumbaikars and the ugly trauma’s. So it is better late than never and finally one question to all bangaloreans cant we produce a leader who can rule the state with more authoritarian elan than any one else .do we need a out sider to rule us. if the same thing continues the days are not far behind for a struggle for reservations in the local civic bodies.
