Summer in Bangalore was never this hot. Not long ago, air-conditioners were alien in Garden city. Today I see most offices and even houses with ACs. That is because the heat this year is unbearable by 10 in the morning. And this is still March. Imagine April-May!
Bangalore was always known for its pleasant summer. In the ’80s, my cousins from Poona and Hubli, both cities known for its hot weather, used to land in Bangalore during summer. Wonder where Bangloreans are heading to avoid the scorching heat!
Just to keep yourself cool during the hot days, one needs to drink lots of water and other cool drinks (certainly not those aerated ones). I prefer a glass of Lassi or Elniru (Tender Coconut water).
Summer also brings with it Mangoes. So how about making a Mango Lassi? I am sure most of you know how to make it. I am just sharing what I learnt from my Aunt a few years ago.
MANGO LASSI RECIPE
1 cup Curd (Mosaru/ Dahi)
1 cup peeled and chopped Ripe Mango (Mavina Hannu/ Aam)
2 tblsp Sugar (Sakkare/ Cheeni) or to taste
1/4th tsp Cardamom Powder (Yelakki/ Elaichi Powder, optional)
Few Ice-cubes (optional)
How to make Mango Lassi:
Combine all ingredients and blend until smooth in a blender.
Strain through a sieve, pushing as much liquid as possible.
Pour in glasses and serve.
To make just Sweet Lassi, take 500ml Curds, 250ml Water, 2tblsp Sugar, 1/2 tsp Salt, Crushed Ice. Put all ingredients in a blender. Add ice to it and blend the mixture until froth appears. Sweet Lassi is ready to serve.
PS: Please try it this evening to keep oneself cool during today’s India-Sri Lanka match.
