Sincere request from a genuine Sangeetha rasika: Stop piracy

Received a request mail a few days ago:

I need the free downloadable Vishnu Sahasranama Stotram mp3 of MS Amma.
From where I can download it? Please help.

I have noticed over the past couple of years, I have had too many requests for MS Amma’s commercially available recordings. The requests are flying thick & fast as many rasikas seem to want a “free download” of these recordings.

My point is this: Why would a so-called “genuine” fan or devotee of MS Amma engage in such piracy, promoting a parallel surruptitious market to exchange what is easily at any time available in the market?? Recordings like Vishnu Sahasranamam, Katrinile varum geetam, Kurai ondrum illai, Bhaja Govindam, the numerous slokas that Amma has sung, etc. etc. etc. are all very common recordings easily procurable even through online shopping channels.

So why would such a “genuine” rasika want to shirk paying royalty to the memory of such a great legend as MS Amma?? Why don’t people want to loosen their purses a bit to enjoy such divine music? I can understand if the request is for rare concert recordings, not commercially available, and difficult to come by for the common rasika.

I feel it is blatant & shameless to easily ask for available commercial recordings for “free download” which is an absolute disgrace to MS Amma’s rasika fraternity.

I request & urge every rasika to wake-up & ‘smell the coffee’ or else you will soon find yourself in a legal quagmire, being forced to shut down. Please avoid such unpleasantaries.

Something must be done to stop piracy. Those who indulge in it don’t realise that they are just killing the very source of their entertainment.

namma mindset badalAgabeku. That’s the only solution.

How do they think of it? I love music .. mostly lighter version but have ear for others as well.

Me in spite of being a north indian, where we have so many artists, have bought & collected numerous CDs/cassttes of many south indian performers including MS and I like to hear them all ! And to tell you, I am NOT a die hard fan of any one artist.

I think all these ppl want an easy way out w/o spending any money. Must be stopped. Nice post RK.

One query here – Why have you enabled ‘moderation’ of comments ? Are you scared of criticisms ?

  5. rk Says:

sometime back, i.e. before i enabled ‘comment moderation’, a few spam comments got into the normal comment list. and it was disgusting to see them amidst wonderful comments. that is the sole reason.

Oh I see. Is there not anything like word verification here in WP ? Sorry to ask you this, I am a naive out here.

as an owner of the said mp3, i wish to protest [though i am probably the only one who will own up here].

how many copies of the hymn should i pay royalty for before i am entitled to burn/copy my own copy? a good majority of the hmv cassettes that i have bought are of such low quality that i’ve already gone through two of the suprabhatam cassettes (for example) in the last few years – i can play neither (and they are copies) anymore. maybe i should demand a refund of the duplicate royalty i paid for the second copy, eh? 🙂

what has geography got to do with it? are you saying that those of us who are south indians should ideally be burning our respective hindi songs collections, and it is only our magnanimity that lets us collect and listen to all those cassettes?

“Why have you enabled ‘moderation’ of comments ?”

our rk is famous. not everyone can expect to be spammed [*touch wood*] ;-).

you may keep word verification or matehematical puzzle, but somehow the spam tricks them all and gets into the mainstream.
i have the AKISMET that helps in atleast keeping all the spam in one place and not loitering in the blog premises. thank god!
