Sri Varamahalakshmi Vratha is a special day for women folk. The Vrata is observed on the Friday immediately preceding the full moon day of the month of Shravana (August-September).

On my way to office today morning, I could see the festive mood in Malleswaram and Gandhi Bazaar markets where ladies were joyously purchasing fruits, banana leaves and flowers among other things, getting ready to welcome goddess Lakshmi, who not only bestows wealth and all sorts of material prosperity, but also imparts divine wisdom to all her devotees.

This year, the festival is on 24 August.

    Hello,

Kala here. I think second time i am posting my comments on your blog. Your blog is really mind blowing.

Even we are having Varamahalakshmi vratha. We celebrate it with all our family members even though ours is not a joint family. I am very much looking forward for tomorrow’s puja.

Oh, I want to make shopping for tomorrow’s festival. Bye.

    hi, happy varamahalakshmi festivities!

we all know that godess Lakshmi represents ‘aishwarya’ or wealth. who does not want wealth? we all want, is it not? hence we all worship the godess. but who can ever say “enough” to this wealth? nobody. however much we have we still comeup with ‘wants’ that need to be satisfied and hence the money that we have will not be sufficient ever. that means we can never be content with the wealth that we have and hence never do we enjoy total fulfillment.

i remember my Guruji’s words here. He used to tell us that “Ishwarasya bhavah Aishwaryah”. the thoughts and feelings associated with Ishwara (or any God for that matter) are the true richness in one’s life. hence those who are immersed in devotion to god are the richest and enjoy fulfillment every moment of their life and in their hearts resides Lakshmi always. and this Lakshmi no body can steal, no insurance required and no insecurities ever in our hearts.

now you decide which richness you want.

    namaste

I was not able to do this festival on August 24th. I am planning to do it on Sept 7th that will be the 3rd week after this festival. Can i do it?

  6. Lakshmi Says:

    Vanishri:
The month of Shravana is the fifth month of the Hindu calender beginning from Chaitra, and is the most auspicious month of the Chaturmasa. On Poornima or fullmoon day, or during the course of the month the star ‘Shravana’ rules the sky, hence the month is called Shravana. This month is spread out with innumerably religious festivals and ceremonies and almost all the days of this month are auspicious.

Shravan is considered the holiest month of the year.

In our house, we do Tulasi Pooja and Lakshmi Pooja on all Fridays. In Shravana Maasa, there is a pooja for each day:
    Aditya is worshipped on Sunday
    Shiva on Monday
    Vithala on Wednesday
    Guru on Thursday
    Lakshmi and Tulasi on Friday
Shani & Sampat Shanivara Vrata on Saturday

Shravana is an important month for Hindu ladies as it brings a series of festivals. During this period, poojas such as Choodi Pooja and Hosthila Pooja (worshipping at threshold for lasting wealth, chastity and happiness) are observed by Sumangalis.
